Billy Hill

CEO, Founder

Billy Hill, owner of Hill Electric, has over 45 years of experience serving San Antonio in the electrical industry. An Apprentice, Journeyman, Forman, Supervisor, Estimator, Vice President, and President, he has truly experienced both the highs and lows at every level along the way.

Born and raised in San Antonio, Mr. Hill picked up his first shovel in 1971, as a green apprentice for Bexar Electric. With hard work and determination he quickly began moving up in the company, becoming Vice President and part owner. When the company went public in ‘98, becoming one of the largest electrical contractors in the United States, focus shifted. Wanting to once again focus more on serving the individual needs of customers, Mr. Hill left Wall Street, and along with a select team founded Hill Electric.

Since opening the doors, Diversity, Servant Leadership, and Professionalism have been the calling cards for Hill Electric. Texas based, and family owned, over 80 employees share his belief that providing the “ultimate customer service experience” is the most important aspect of any company. To ensure this happens Mr. Hill has always placed an emphasis on providing his people the proper training, education, and tools to promote success. He continually supports his staff by empowering them to make the right decision based on their customers’ needs. His proven track record of providing award winning service in both the residential and commercial sectors is well respected by his peers all over the country. Over the years he has developed the right partnerships with the right vendors, clients, and customers, who mirror his core values and share similar philosophies. This has been one of his keys to success over many years in the electrical contracting business.

The other has been his continual desire to learn both professionally as well as personally. From playing an active role in the Independent Electrical Contractors Association, to sharing best practices all over the country, Mr. Hill is always looking for ideas on how to improve. He has served as president of the IEC San Antonio chapter three separate times promoting professionalism and education throughout the electrical industry. During that time he took part in numerous

national conferences, legislative meetings, and spent countless hours volunteering as an advocate for open merit shops. Personally, his desire to improve is driven by his relationship with Jesus Christ. He has been an active member of First Baptist Universal City for over 35 years, sitting on building, personnel, and finance committees. Vickie, his wife of 45 years, has also spent most of her time serving in the church, as a Sunday School teacher, c oordinator, and volunteer. Together they raised both of their children in the church, laying the foundation for future success. Their daughter Vanessa is the Chief of Medicine at Children’s Hospital downtown. She and her husband of 18 years have 3 children. Billy Ross Hill who joined his father in 2006, is now the president of Hill Electric and oversees day to day operations. He and his wife just celebrated 10 years of marriage and are raising three girls of their own. All six of “Poppy’s” grandchildren attend First Baptist Academy in Universal City and enjoy soccer, gymnastics, and swimming.

Mr. Hill’s leadership and guidance has spanned 5 decades, and has positively influenced thousands of electricians as well as their families, customers, his church, children and grandchildren. Mr. Hill’s vision of providing “a mom and pop” shop, utilizing the tools and technology of the 21st century, is clearer than ever at Hill Electric; and his signature button down collar shirt and tie, remain a constant fixture throughout the electrical industry.

Billy Ross Hill

President

Over the past nine years his passion for family, employees and customers, coupled with a father’s guidance, has fueled his success. Today Billy oversees day to day operations to include marketing and sales, employee development, solar, and safety as President of the company.

Billy is quick to acknowledge the role IEC plays on both a national and local level, embracing every opportunity to actively support that cause. He currently serves on the board of directors for IEC’s San Antonio Chapter, and along with his father, is active with in the IEC Forum (14) Group. He travels the country attending the IEC Cons and Business Summits, and has lobbied for independent contractors several times in Washington during IEC National Fly-ins. In addition to his personal commitment, Billy has continued the precedence his father set, paying for their apprentices to attend the IEC School. The company also pays for journeyman prep, continuing education, and technical training courses offered through the IEC. As an advocate for the trades program, Billy spends time speaking to NEISD students at career fairs and assemblies about the benefits of entering the trade. He also works with the district through their coop program, providing part time work for seniors throughout the year.
